-
- I. Getting Started
- ------------------
- There is no need to run an install program before playing the game.
- To start, simply insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive. Once the
- game window has opened, click the Pajama Sam icon.
-
-
- II. Gameplay Information
- ------------------------
-
- A. System Requirements
- ----------------------
- Macintosh CD-ROM
- System 7.0 or Higher
- Minimum 25MHz 68040 or PowerPC
- 8MB of Ram
- 640x480, 256 colors
- Double-Speed CD-ROM Drive
-
-
- B. Using the Mouse to Control Pajama Sam
- ----------------------------------------
- Point and click to guide Pajama Sam through the Land of Darkness!
- As you move the mouse around the screen, the pointer changes to
- reflect the type of action it will perform when clicked.
-
- A clear arrow acts as the standard pointer in the game. When you
- see the empty outline, it means that the mouse is not currently
- pointing at an object which can be activated.
-
- Pay attention when you see the pointer turn solid. It means that
- the object you are pointing at can be picked up, manipulated, or
- activated.
-
- A large arrow shows that there is more exploration to be done in
- the indicated direction. Just click to send Sam off in the
- direction of the arrow. The large pointer also shows the exit from
- a puzzle or mini-game.
-
- C. Sam's Inventory
- ------------------
- Sam's inventory is not usually visible, but will spring into view
- when the mouse pointer is moved to the bottom of the screen.
-
- Inventory Items are objects which Sam has picked up during his
- adventures. To use an item, just click its picture in the
- interface. The mouse pointer will change to a small representation
- of the item which was chosen. Now, click the pointer on an object
- in the current scene to use the two items together.
-
- The Quit button (which appears on the left side of the inventory
- bar) provides a quick way to exit the game. Just click, and you
- will be presented with a dialog box asking you to confirm whether
- you want to stop playing.
-
- D. Keyboard Commands
- --------------------
- <Spacebar> Pauses the game, and opens the pause dialog box. This
- will also make the menu bar visible across the top of
- the screen.
-
- <Escape> Fast-forward through the current cutscene. (A cutscene
- is one of the game's animated sequences)
-
- <Period> Same as the <Escape> key, but skips only the current
- character's line -- not the entire scene.
-
- <Shift><F5> Toggles the game between running full-screen or in a
- window.
-
- <Command><Q> Quit the Game
-
- <Command><R> Restart the Game
-
-
- III. Technical Issues
- ---------------------
-
- Error: The game was unable to open its preferences file.
- --------------------------------------------------------
- The preferences file has become corrupted, and will need to be
- rebuilt. To do this, open the Hard Drive->System Folder->
- Preferences->Humongous Entertainment. Inside this folder you
- will find a file called Humongous Prefs. Drag this file to
- the trash, then start the game. The CD-ROM will be tested once
- more, after which the game should be fine.
-
- Choppy Sound and/or Video
- -------------------------
- Many times this can be caused by memory settings which are not
- optimal for our game. We suggest going into the memory control
- panel, and setting things up as follows:
-
- Cache Size: 256k
- Virtual Memory: Off (unless your Mac is a PowerPC)
- 32-bit Addressing (or Modern Memory Management): On
- RAM Disk: Off
-
- No Sound
- --------
- The game's volume may have been muted. Try holding down the command
- key, then selecting a volume level from the game menu. This should
- cancel mute, if it has been selected.
-
- Error messages which make references to Scripts, Costumes, Code
- Blocks, Actors, Globs, Music Read Failures, Illegal Sounds, or
- SCUMM
- ---------------------------------------------------------------
- In many cases, these types of errors are the result of a disk
- that has become dirty or damaged. The first and easiest thing to
- do in this situation is remove the CD-ROM from the drive and
- examine the shiny side in the light. Quite frequently CDs become
- fingerprinted--especially by little fingers. If the disk does
- look fingerprinted, a simple cleaning of the CD-ROM may get the
- game running. If the disk appears to be scratched, or if
- cleaning does not solve the problem, contact our Technical
- Support department.
-
- Other Problems
- --------------
- If none of the solutions listed above resolve your problem,
- an extension conflict may be the culprit. Try going into the
- extension manager and turning off all extensions (except ones
- which are necessary to operate the CD-ROM). Once you have
- restarted the computer, run the game.
-
- As a last resort, you may also want to try reinstalling the Apple
- System Software. Some really strange problems may be caused by
- corrupted system files, and reinstalling the system software will
- take care of these.
